The analysis of original sealing structure is : First , as sealing ,gland packing is good or bad depends on the original sealing structure and application. The key point is sealing material and sealing layers. Usually ,sealing with many layers have much better sealed function than little layers, but there exist a long sealing structure . The gland packing box is outside of shell, it is close to bearing,so it is serious influenced on the inspection efficiency.Second, the strength of the pressed sealing in the axial direction is often inconsistent,which is more stressed near the end of the cover of gland packing, so as to cause rapid wear of the axial neck. Third,during assembling the gland packing, if the cover is stressed too tightly,the shaft will be worn out seriously; if the cover is loosen,it can not reach a good sealing purpose. Usually ,in order to avoid any leakage, try to adjust the gland cover in a tight degree.Fourthly, if the shaft has been worn out,the powder will leak from the worn parts. In such condition,we need tight the gland cover in a reasonable way.At last , the disadvantage of gland packing is that the powder will be contacted with shafts ,rubbed with shafts during working. Due to some powders are very hard, the rubbing will make the driven shaft wear out fast. In summary, if conveyed powders are very hard ,like mining or coal powder ,gland packing is not ideal sealing structure.We need use other advanced sealing.
